First Drafts Are Called Drafts For A Reason

I’m not gonna go as far as to say that first drafts can’t be good, but by definition, they’re your first effort. Trust me. You could do better.

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I had completed the first draft of The Blood of Brothers. This is my longest novel yet, weighing in over 110,000 words. I think it’s great, but I wouldn’t have dreamed of releasing something with 4 POV characters, 3 criminal gangs, 3 local police forces and the FBI without giving it a few revisions.

At this point, all the scenes are paced properly. The plot has twists and turns in a way that keeps readers guessing but drops clues along the way, and (I hope) all the characters are interesting.

There’s still more polish ahead as I copy edit my work and then send it to my editor, but it’s looking like The Blood of Brothers is set for a fall release. Don’t forget to sign up to my mailing list if you want to be notified when that happens.

I’m going wine tasting to celebrate. I hope you have a great weekend too.
