Welcome to my series on Pixar’s now-famous 22 Rules of Storytelling. I don’t religiously follow all of these like they’re story commandments, but I do happen to agree with many of them. I thought it might be fun to examine why and explain what each means to me. You can start at the beginning here.
Even bad stories have compelling situations or interesting characters. Finding ways to make those elements work will reveal to you what you really dislike about stories.
Really, this is just looking at Tip #10 from the opposite direction. Dissecting stories that get a reaction out of you, good or bad, will make you a more aware writer.
