Pixar Storytelling Tip #21

Welcome to my series on Pixar’s now-famous 22 Rules of Storytelling. I don’t religiously follow all of these like they’re story commandments, but I do happen to agree with many of them. I thought it might be fun to examine why and explain what each means to me. You can start at the beginning here.

These tips are starting to get a bit repetitive, huh? I’m starting to think they should’ve pared a few down. This one is almost a repeat of #15.

The point is, believable characters are that way because of some truths. Whether you’ve gotten your point of view from a real experience or research, a factual basis will ground it in reality. Put some of yourself and your thoughts out there.
